The point is, they think that because the U.S. and Europe enjoyed nearly 200 years of environmental ignorance they should be able to do the same. Any efforts to improve environmental efforts in the U.S. (which would be the nail in the coffin for an already shaky economy) would be negated by further growth in both India and China. It's not worth doing a thing unless we can get all of the major polluters to do the same.

I think we could survive without China's cheap crap (by reopening factories in this country and buying wooden toys from within the country and from Europe - I don't want Ebola all over the cheap crap we could buy from Africa ) whereas China would not do so well if the U.S., Japan, Australia, and EU cut off exports. The one flaw in China's possible plan to crash the dollar is that nobody would trade with them again if they did so. Let China's government think about what a few hundred million starving people have to say after American and Canadian wheat stops pouring into their country....

I think that you just proved my point for me there, the Kyoto treaty is pointless because the US is to cheap to actually join in, your basicly saying well if china can pollute well than so can we ?, and yes the US is to blame and your also proving that point who owns all these large corporations in india that are causing the pollution? who buys all there products ? the us.

Yet another typical America response

That's the hammer & sickle, symbols associated with communism. Note how the Chinese flag is red & yellow.

The point I was trying to make is that we would be wasting our money if we can't get the other major polluters to join in the effort. Any progress we make would be wiped out in just a few years unless China follows suit with the rest of us. I don't see how asking every major polluter to help cut down on emissions as opposed to singling one out for all the blame and ignoring the rest is a bad thing.
