The reason for that is that 700+ million (or at least a hell of a lot) of China's citizens are living in pre-Industrial Revolution conditions - no electricity, no running water, no sanitation. It's hard to pollute when all you have is a rice paddy. If every one of China's billion people had a quality of life like even the poorest Americans, there would be a black cloud over China and the western Pacific Ocean with all the coal plants they'd have to run - American coal reserves would be depleted in 30 years because we'd be selling coal to them like crazy (when they would last us 300 years otherwise). It's really an impressive difference when you take into account quality of life and energy usage per person. And they don't import American cars not because we're capitalist scum (though they think so) or because our cars are so environmentally unfriendly (they'd be buying Ford Escapes at the very least), but rather because everyone who is affluent enough to own a car already has one from Germany or Italy - this is a small number of people, by the way, because the socialist government gets all of the money coming into the country (which is the definition of a socialist government, the kind that Hillary Clinton wishes to install in this country...). I imagine that they'll be more interested in American automobiles as their economy grows, though; we seem to be buying all of the Japanese cars.

Actually General Motors builds and sells cars in China. So the Chinese actually do drive american cars. Over 500,000 sold during the past few years. What worries me is what if GM starts offering "Made in China" cars to us here in North America? I shudder to think about it.

Yep...

And if I see Made in China on my cars, I'm buying exclusively from Germany. Actually, I heard BMW is going to be firing workers in Germany and hiring more in their North (or South, can't remember now) Carolina plant because of inflation over here. So my German-engineered car would be made in the USA...that's a hell of a combination.

wow, a U.S. vs. China thread... seems like i had this discussion with Cricket a looooooooooooooong time ago... lol... damn that guy was pro-american...

Trust me guys, you do not want me in here. I'm just gonna keep raving about how awesome China is.

Ok i AM going to say a few things at least...

If you look at America's past, you can't really keep a straight face while telling China that taking over territory is wrong.
Also, media can be misleading. While they tell you about how bad the pollution is in China, they don't tell you that for the past 6 years the chinese government has been tearing down buildings just to plant trees and flowers, and while they talk about the chinese oppression in Tibet, they do not mention the atrocities the protesters committed. They've burned down hospitals, private properties, mugged loyalists to the government, beaten several doctors to death who were trying to take a child in an ambulance to get emergency help, and left the child to die. and fairly recently, they burned a shop with 3 female college students inside, all of them were burned to death.

While many nations frown upon China, China still gains much international support. Recently, England announced its support of "one China", supporting the unification of China and Taiwan.

And the whole pollution thing is just ridiculous... wow China passed the U.S. as global polluter #1 for like what, less than a month? How long has the U.S. been the #1 polluter? like ages... ppl who tell me with a superior expression that China is now the #1 polluter make me laugh... lol maybe they're just relieved that they can now finally find a scapegoat...

just some things to think about.

The U.S. should seriously find something better to do than just criticizing those who are doing the same things that the U.S. has already done. Getting into everyone's business isn't really a good way to gain international support. lol

Also, Sinatra, international support WILL come with economic and military dominance. Did you really think that the U.S. is so popular because it's so nice to other people? =P

lol sorry i promised not to rave... but just 1 more thing.

If you've lived in China, you would know this, but the people in China, no matter what you may think, do NOT care about what kind of government they have. As long as we get food on our tables and clothes on our bodies, we don't care. Besides, I'm not sure if democracy would be so much more beneficial for a country with so many people. I mean look at the principle of a capitalist society, a handful of people are just going to get richer while the poor get even poorer. and unlike the U.S., if China converted to democracy right now, the progressive movements won't be starting for another few centuries. XD Besides, communist principles don't really apply anymore anyway. Everyone is just accepting bribes to balance out all the communist thinking.
