It looks like someone didn't do their job if he "legally" obtained the weapon.

He was discharged from the AF with a BCD via a general courts martial for beating his wife and child (and also sentenced to a year in the brig).

General Court-Martial is the highest court in the military justice system. A conviction in a general court-martial is almost always going to be considered a felony. However, many states do not consider strictly military offenses to be felonies, including disrespect toward a superior commissioned officer and failing to report, even though these offenses are occasionally heard at a general court-martial level.

Once his appeal process was finished back in 2014 (if I read correctly) this should have transferred over on the federal level for classification and Texas would have viewed this as a felony equivalent.


The system was in place to prevent this.
